Donald Trump May Want to Open ‘Casino’ in Greenland, John Bolton Claims

Experienced foreign policy expert John Bolton conjectured in a recent interview that President-Elect Donald Trump might consider establishing a casino in Greenland if the U.S. were to gain possession of the large northern Atlantic island.

Bolton, who had a short tenure as Trump’s national security advisor in his initial term, expressed this idea in a recent interview with The Free Press.

“He wants to put a Trump casino in Nuuk,” Bolton said about the island’s capital city.

"Trump Nuuk, how is that for posterity,” Bolton responded to a reporter in what could have been Bolton thinking out loud. “Trump Nuuk. A Trump Tower, too.”

“I think he did a tweet on Greenland’s real estate,” Bolton added. “I’m serious, I think he did.”

Since 2019, Trump has consistently proposed that the U.S. ought to purchase Greenland from Denmark. Since being reelected in November, Trump has again brought up the possibility.

Important for U.S. Security

"For purposes of National Security and Freedom throughout the World, the United States of America feels that the ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity,” Trump said in a recent tweet.

In the Free Press interview, Bolton emphasized that “Greenland is closely linked to our security for many reasons and has been so since World War II, following the fall of the Danish government, to safeguard the North Atlantic convoys and our interests against the Nazi danger.”

After World War II, the U.S. established an Air Force base in Thule, Greenland, which is now known as the Pituffik Space Base.

"Given Greenland’s geographic proximity to the United States, and everything else I’ve stated, it’s obviously a strategic interest,” Bolton said. Greenland is part of “the North American landmass, and that makes it a vital security interest for the United States.”

During his time as Trump’s national security advisor, Bolton considered a few preliminary options for the U.S. to acquire Greenland, but “they never progressed, as Trump discussed everything openly, causing the situation to explode,” Bolton remembered.

Bolton suggested that Trump should "keep quiet" and "engage in some private discussions" if he wants the U.S. to obtain Greenland in the future.

“If he refers to the Danish prime minister as ‘nasty’ once more, it likely won’t yield positive results,” Bolton commented.

“The Danish prime minister said it was absurd, which may have been produced by Trump saying something public,” Bolton said.

The prior suggestions resulted in numerous jokes on American TV programs, with host Conan O’Brien hosting a series of episodes from Greenland where he discussed the concept with locals.

Trump’s name is presently associated with various resorts or hotels that are owned and managed by the Trump Organization. It comprises the Trump International Hotel Las Vegas, where an explosion occurred on New Year’s Day.

Is Trump for Real?

Recently, Trump indicated that the U.S. should reclaim the Panama Canal and potentially incorporate Canada into the United States. The Panama Canal was previously under U.S. control. Furthermore, during President Abraham Lincoln's administration, Secretary of State William Seward suggested that the U.S. obtain all or a portion of Canada.

When questioned regarding Trump's suggestions about Panama and Canada, Bolton, a former U.N. ambassador, replied to the Free Press, "Well, who can tell with Trump what's serious and what isn't?"
