Swedish Gambling Revenue Tops SEK 6.7 Billion in Q3 2023

According to the most recent financial report published by Sweden's gambling regulator, Spelinspektionen, gaming operators made SEK 6.7 billion ($611.9 million/€573.8 million) in the third quarter of 2023.
Again leading the market, online gambling brought in 63.1% of total revenue.
Compared to the SEK 6.77 billion reported in Q3 2022, this represents a slight decrease of slightly over 1%, according to the report. With an overall revenue difference of less than half a percent, the most recent numbers are almost exactly the same as those released for the second quarter of 2023.
Online Gambling
With combined revenues of SEK 4.25 billion ($388.1 million/€363.9 million), commercial online gambling providers, which included both online casino gaming and sports betting, dominated the market. This represented 63.1% of the industry's total gaming income. Additionally, it was 1.7% higher than the previous quarter but 1.3% lower than the third quarter of 2022. Online casinos have made SEK 12.6 billion ($1.1 billion/€1.07 billion) in revenue thus far this year.
In-Person Gambling
For the quarter, the state lottery and in-person slot machines brought in SEK 1.4 billion ($127.9 million/€119.9 million). Approximately the same amount was reported for Q3 2022 and the prior quarter. With this, the total amount for 2023 thus far has reached SEK 4.1 billion ($374.6 million/€351.2 million).
As of right now in 2023, gaming revenues have brought in slightly over SEK 20 billion ($1.8 billion/€1.7 billion).
Additionally, the report states that approximately 99,000 people had used Spelpaus.se, a national self-exclusion program, to self-exclude from gambling by the end of Q2. This is a 4% rise over the preceding quarter.
